Classic Evidence label
Created in 2023, the cantata Tombeau pour Aliénor by Thierry Escaich is a commission from the Amarillis ensemble to the composer. On a poem by Olivier Py, she makes Eleanor’s voice heard (1122-1204), twice queen during her lifetime – queen of France through her marriage to Louis VII, then from England by her second marriage to Henry II Plantagenêt. Associated with Purcell parts, the seven lyric poems and three instrumental interludes with varied sound combinations draw a sensitive fresco, evoking the life and states of mind of the sovereign, his thoughts and desires.
