Three queens, three destinies
First of all, Queen Mary, wife of William III of England, whose birthday and funeral Henry Purcell celebrated musically, and which inspired him even in his score ofThe Fairy Queen(The Queen of Fairies). Then the great Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was queen of France and England, mentioned by the composer Thierry Escaich in hisTomb for Eleanor, on a text by Olivier Py. An order from the Amarillis ensemble which also accompanies, to conclude this rich program, the imperial and imperious Agrippina, in one of Georg Friedrich Handel’s most vibrant operas.
