Trained with Chiara Banchini at the Schola Cantorum(Basel), Matthieu Camilleri performs regularly with the Concert Spirituel(Hervé Niquet) as well as within various chamber ensembles such as La Fenice(Jean Tubery), Amarillis(Heloïse Gaillard), Academy (Françoise Lasserre), or as first violin (The Muffattis, Parliament of Music, Academy).

With his ensemble Les Récréations, he recently recorded Alessandro Scarlatti’s Sonata a quattro for Ricercar (Golden Diapason), and plays in several early music festivals(Lanvellec, The Chair, Ribeauvillé, Souvigny, Bach in Combrailles…) as well as for WDR or France Musique radios.

He specialized in the field of Historical Improvisation with the organist Rudolf Lutz at the Schola : improvisation with bass, but also for solo violin. During his research on the directory, he developed a system of polyphonic reflexes applicable to stringed instruments and thus gave, alone or accompanied, improvised recitals in several concert series: Lausanne Improvised Music Festival, Leipzig Improvisation Festival, Lanvellec, Early Music Forum Zurich, Tartini Festival, Bach in Combrailles, etc.

Convinced of the extraordinary educational virtues of the improvisatory approach, final stage of stylistic acquisition, he regularly speaks during internships or Masterclasses within several institutions such as the National Higher Conservatories of Music of Lyon and Paris, the School of Singers, la Royal Academy of Music London, or the Improvisationsfestival Leipzig.

in mai 2018 was released for the EnPhases label (Outhere) a solo violin record, Feel the sea, mirroring Tartini sonatas with improvisations.
