Marouan Mankar-Bennis, began his musical studies in Limoges then perfected his skills with the harpsichordist Elisabeth Joyé who would be a decisive encounter for him. He then joined the CNSM in Paris where he won prizes for harpsichord and basso continuo in the classes of Olivier Baumont and Blandine Rannou. He learned about the clavichord and the pianoforte and completed his training in summer academies where he followed the teaching of Bob van Asperen., Meno van Delft, Nicolau de Figueredo or Pierre Hantaï.
His dual activity as concert performer and vocal leader leads him to work regularly with Vincent Dumestre, director of Poème Harmonique with whom he performs in London, New York, The Mint, Krakow, St. Petersburg, Vienna and Tokyo.
As a soloist, he records a first disc around the harpsichord work of Jean-François Dandrieu (1682-1738) at the critically acclaimed Enceladus. He also recorded a second opus on the organ and harpsichord around the Sicilian composer Bernardo Storace. ( milieu XVII°s.) who obtains numerous distinctions (Classic Choc, 5 tuning fork, selection from the Neue Muzikzeitung, The Diapason Magazine – Indiana)
In 2018, he founded with the violinist Hélène Houzel and the gambist Claire Gautrot, the Lyre d’Orphée collective which benefits from the support of the Singer-Polignac foundation and the Drac île-de-France.
Among his recent collaborations include the recording of the 1st cycle of Les Leçons de Tenebres by Michel Lambert (1610-1696) with the baritone Marc Mauillon for Harmonia Mundi or with Claire Gautrot around the Pieces for Viole by François Couperin (1668-1733). At the same time, he partners with the choreographer Chrystelle Arcelin and her Compagnie Fêtes Baroques on numerous projects combining music and ancient dances..
Passionate about research and teaching, he holds a Certificate of Aptitude as a teacher and is a musical patronage grant holder from Société Générale. He currently teaches at the Regional Conservatory of Angers and regularly supervises internships and artistic projects in France but also abroad such as at the University of Santander in Spain., to the Academy of Music of Vilnius.
